Does this look like a fledgling White Crown Sparrow? I see the black stripe but no white on tope. This was near Berkeley...and Like most White Crowns I have seen...they tend to be isolated when feeding which was the same as what this bird was…Continue

National Bird Day

Posted by Birder's Network on December 8, 2010 at 11:00pm 0 Comments

National Bird Day is celebrated on the 5th of January every year. It is a special day of recognition to our feathery friends in the sky. So how can we bring about awareness? The good people at nationalbirdday.org, organized by Born Free USA, help… Continue

Purple Martins

Posted by Gayle Colquhoun on May 8, 2011 at 8:27pm 3 Comments

Our Purple Martins began arriving on April 30. We have room for 72 pairs. So far we have 20. We only have their lovely twitters until August 11 as we are a northern colony. We had 244 babies banded last year and hope for more this year.

Welcome to the Birder's Network

The Birder's Network is a network site design to bring beginners and experts together, share information, and connect with birder's around the world. My first introduction to wild birds was many years ago when I worked at a nature store specializing in feeding wild birds. I learn to appreciate these delicate creatures and their beauty. After, a hiatus due to career changes and concurrently operating a business as a web designer, I still try to find time here and there to listen and observe birds in my local area. I still consider myself a novice bird watcher, but beginner or expert, enjoying nature has no prerequisites.
